Sacrifice is not really a pleasant topic for anyone. Despite the fact that we are using the term more frequently these days as a result of rising prices in key items such as agriculture and power, many do anything we can to prevent having to make compromises. We will make concessions in one area to avoid having to make sacrifices in another, as absurd as that may sound! This highlights the human predisposition to hold some aspects of our lives in higher regard than others, and we are hesitant to give up even a small portion of what we cherish the most.
This is not how Jesus Christ lived. He is really about sacrifice in His existence. His entire life had been a sacrifice. And it is His living that has been praised as the ideal model for ours. Everyone acquainted with the Scripture will immediately think of Jesus’ death on the cross on Calvary in order to atone for mankind’s sins. His crucifixion was, without a doubt, the most significant act of sacrifice in human history, a perfect example of His own message.
It’s impossible for those who are short-sighted to comprehend how the awareness of His death and suffering must have worn on His mind since He informed Joseph and Mary at the age of 12 that He had to be about His Dad’s business. It must have been an impossibly enormous load for Him to enter the world to carry the iniquities of each man, woman, and child. Jesus told us that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the Father but by Him. Do you understand the meaning behind any of these?
